Jason’s Hat

Jason Hat BYU Game.jpg

🧢
I wear his hat.
To different ballgames, I wear his hat.

Jason loved his hats and has a large collection.
My rule was “get rid of one before you buy another one.”
But really they just got moved to a box downstairs because he couldn’t part with them.

Jason is a superfan.
Passionate about his teams.
Loyal even during the losing years.
And he always wanted the hat.

I wear them now.
Coleman plays lacrosse while I wear Jason’s favorite coach’s hat.
We go to the high school football game and I bring him along by wearing his hat.

So, of course I wore Jason’s hat for the BYU-Utah football game.
Of course I picked the royal blue one to match the crowd.
Of course it came in handy during the 15-minute downpour of rain.
Of course it brought some luck to the Cougars.

Finally we won!
Finally we didn’t have to attend a game - either at Rice Eccles or Lavell Edwards Stadium - and come away with a loss at the end.
Finally Jason didn’t have to go to church to hear the remarks from the Ute fans the next day.
Finally! They did it, Jas!

I feel him shine down on me when I’m in these Jason-full spaces.
A physical sensation. Memories and thoughts wandering through my head.
I’m into the game but occupied with feeling him, too.
I’m cheering like crazy and remembering all the moments he sat in spot 25 at Portal Q.

His hat came to the game.
I’m so glad you were with us for the victory, Superfan.💙✊🏻🏈
