In the Heights is Back
đźŽ
Jason and I saw “In the Heights” on Broadway years ago. Maybe it was the year it came out in 2008.
This new guy named Lin-Manuel Miranda was the writer and the lead actor.
There was rapping.
And Spanish.
Rapping in Spanish.
We were like, “That was awesome. What the heck did we just experience?”
We had never heard anything like it on Broadway.
Then that new guy created a thing called “Hamilton” and wrote the music for Moana and now his influence is EVERYWHERE.
Coleman has been in a theater camp the last two weeks.
They’re performing the opening number from “In the Heights” as part of their show.
Coleman has been playing the soundtrack and watching the movie relentlessly for 14 days.
And hearing it always puts me back in the Richard Rogers Theater in NYC.
Wheelchair seats off to the left of the stage.
Or is that called stage right?
Sitting next to Jason. Doing the thing we loved to do - go to Broadway shows.
Coleman has some major rapping parts in the show. Channeling his inner Lin-Manuel Miranda. He’s ready. It’s memorized. The moves are practiced.
Jason is pumped for this.
I can feel it.
We’re back watching “In the Heights” together.
I can totally feel it.
He’s loving it. And loving his son. And loving me.
I can feel it.✊🏻💙
