I’m Glad You Don’t Have To…

Coleman Speaking with Prophet.jpeg

🧑🏼‍🦼
There are a lot of days when I think, “I can’t believe you’re gone.”
But then there are some days when, like today, I think, “I’m so glad you don’t have to do that anymore.”

I have this photo in a frame in Coleman’s bathroom.
Coleman was going to speak in a church service for 5000 people in our area. He was nine years old.
We had just learned that the prophet and leader of our worldwide church, Russell M. Nelson would be in that same meeting.
Also speaking.
Jason was having a moment with his son before the meeting started, giving encouragement and probably advice that Coleman may or may not have listened to. For sure we were more freaked out and nervous about Coleman speaking than Coleman was!
He nailed his speech and had some pretty cool moments with the prophet, too.

That’s what this photo is about.
I just walked by it in the bathroom and had the thought, “Oh man, I’m so glad you don’t have to do that anymore.”

I wasn’t thinking of the fatherhood part of this photo.
I wasn’t thinking of the connection to his son part of this photo.
I wasn’t thinking of the love part, the cool memory part, or the meaningful advice part.
I was thinking of the 33 years of sitting down part of this photo.
I was thinking of the struggle of not having 7/8ths of your body working part.
I was thinking of the “it took you three hours to get ready for church that day” part.

And I felt relief.
I really am so glad you don’t have to do that part anymore, Jas.✊🏻💙
