You Really Can Do That Thing
✂️
My brother Kent and I owned a scrapbook company.
We produced paper and stickers and embellishments then sold them to scrapbook stores.
We had a larger company called Colorbok who was interested in buying our little business.
That's how they did it back then. The big guys bought the smaller guys.
But Kent and I wanted something different. We were a brand new company and didn't want to sell it to someone. We wanted to build it. Create something.
We wondered if the big company would be willing to do something different with us.
We told them that we weren't willing to sell, but we would design a separate line of products for them, branded under my name.
I admit, I was petrified to ask. And I was shocked that Colorbok said yes.
We ended up winning an industry award for our collaboration. We were the first companies to work together as two entities instead of one just swallowing up the other one.
I had hot-selling kits on QVC with them. I had product in Michaels and Walmart with them. It began my path of designing for other companies.
And we still owned our scrapbook business.
We had wondered if we could do it differently than other companies had done it. Yes. We could.
What are you wondering if you can do?
Try it.
Surprise yourself and the world with that thing.🌎
