Tiny Heart

❤️
I went to South Korea with my sister a few years ago.
We visited our friends Melissa and Craig Sonksen who were the mission leaders for our church.

Mel had a bunch of photos of their missionaries in her kitchen. Every single one of those missionary pictures had them doing a version of heart hands...
And also this (see Coleman’s photo).
This was before BTS and KPop was huge in America so I couldn’t figure out what they were doing with their crossed thumb and index finger.

Mel explained.
It’s a tiny heart.

I told Coleman about tiny hearts when I got home.
Every morning as I dropped him off at school he started giving me a tiny heart through my car window.
I would roll down that window, give one back and say, “Be awesome today!”

Now he gives me a tiny heart every time he gets out of the car.
Dropping him off at lacrosse practice or a friend’s house or Lagoon amusement park.
I get a tiny heart.
And I say, “Be awesome today.”

This year I haven’t been driving him to school. He goes to our neighborhood elementary now and it’s only a mile away.
He scooters to school. Meeting up with friends along the way (such a dream!)
But he likes it when I come to the garage door while he gets his scooter and starts off. He likes it when I close the garage door behind him.
He likes it when I am standing there as he turns around with a tiny heart.
And I think he still even likes it when I say, “Be awesome today.”

Here’s your tiny heart.
From a kid who really does believe he is awesome. An awesome leader. An awesome friend. An awesome make-up work getter-doner after he’s been out sick.
He’s not the #1 math guy or the one who loves to read. He’s not a science wiz or budding engineer. But he knows he’s awesome at other things. The Coleman things.

What if you decided to try on that thought, too?
Give yourself a tiny heart and the charge to “Be awesome today.”
Knowing that you totally will. You totally are. In your own awesome way. With your own awesome abilities.
