How I make powerful decisions: Barre3 case study

Case Study: How I made a powerful decision about my exercise routine using the Decision Formula:

#1 Identify what I value (regarding my exercise routine)

  • I value low-impact movement

  • I value social connection

  • I value a strong body and mind

  • I value variety of moving options

  • I value instructors so I can just listen and follow along

  • I value chances to tune into my body

  • I value having something scheduled that I have to show up for

#2 What do I want to have happen here?

  • I like doing Pilates using a reformer at a studio but I want to incorporate more cardio into my movement.

  • I don’t want to sacrifice any of the things I’m getting from Pilates:

    • Instructor to follow

    • Social connection with others in class

    • Scheduled time for class

    • Low-impact, high focus on flexibility, balance and strength

    • Adaptable schedule - I like signing up for a specific time that can change from day to day or week to week depending on my calendar

#3 What is the best way to make this happen?

  • Attend online/livestream classes at friend’s Barre3 Studio (located in Meridian, Idaho)

  • Try different classes and instructors

  • Purchase designated tools for class (heavier weights, exercise bands, Pilates ball)

  • Take a variety of Pilates and Barre3 classes throughout my week

  • Take livestream Barre3 classes when my schedule doesn’t allow enough time to drive to the studio and back (i.e. Wednesday and Thursday mornings)

  • Take livestream Barre3 classes on days the Pilates classes are full

#4 Evaluate

  • Adding Barre3 livestream classes has increased my exercise each week (I exercise more days because an online class fits into my schedule better sometimes)

  • Barre3 classes are like Pilates but with more cardio - the cues are familiar and I apply my Pilates knowledge to my Barre3 experience

  • I feel like I am part of the class because it is livestreamed - the instructors always talk to those of us online

  • My heart and body are stronger

  • I connect with my friend who owns the Barre3 studio because I understand her work better

  • Mixing Pilates and Barre3 classes is fun and I like the variety

SUM IT UP

After I tried the first Barre3 livestreamed class, I knew I was going to like it.

I knew it would work for me.

Why?

Because I had already identified what was important to me in my exercise routine.

I knew I did well having a live instructor.

I knew I liked the social connection of a live class.

I knew I liked having to schedule the class so that I didn’t put it off. It is on my calendar and so I show up.

I knew I wanted low-impact but to increase my cardio.

I knew that the strength, balance and flexibility of Pilates was important for my body.

I have identified what I care about most in my exercise experience.

I knew what I was missing - what I wanted more of.

I found a solution that supports what I want to have happen.

This might seem like a small decision - just take the dang class, right?!!!

But when we are deliberate about the decisions we make, every part of our lives becomes intentional.

Every conversation becomes intentional.

Every agenda becomes intentional.

Every relationship becomes intentional.

Every thought, every feeling, every action becomes intentional.

And when it isn’t, we know how to create that intention.

Always getting better at being aligned with what we actually care most about.

There will be many things that get in the way of you making aligned, powerful decisions.

  • people who don’t share your vision

  • thoughts that you need to be doing it all

  • feelings of pressure and stress

  • guilt that you can’t be everywhere at once and you’re letting people down who count on you

  • over-committing and over-scheduling because you think it’s required

  • feeling on the edge of burnout because you know that how you’re creating your success is not sustainable

  • second-guessing if this is the “right” decision

There is another way.

And your success does not have to be compromised.

Success increases when we get really clear on what we actually want to have happen.

We want to have a thriving business AND a thriving family.

It’s possible.

One does not have to be sacrificed for the other.

You can do it all with ease.

Use the Decision Formula until it becomes second-nature.

It becomes just a part of you.

I’m a master at living intentionally.

I know that this is one of the reasons you read these emails.

You want to do it like you see me do it.

And you know someone else who wants this, too.

That’s what we do when we work together.

You become the master of living intentionally, too.

You become the master of making powerful, aligned decisions with confidence.

For the rest of your life.

Send me a text or message if you want to talk about what the next step looks like for you.

Sending love,

K
