How Organizing Actually Happens

🏠
Wondering how I’m able, during this less than motivating time in my life, to go through the whole house and end up with empty closets, spic-and-span shelves and drawers that look like these?

I’ll give it to you REAL...

I tell my sister, Kara and sister-in-law, Carolie that I’m feeling overwhelmed with too much clutter.

They ask which area would help me the most to tackle.

“I don’t know, maybe the (insert room of choice here)? What do you think?” I say in a very noncommittal way.

“Yes, that is a good idea,” they say.

They tell me that they’ll be there the next day at 10 am to help.

I don’t really want to do it.
I mean, I want it done, but I don’t want to do it.
All the next morning I think, maybe I should cancel and just read my book today.
I have a good excuse, right?

Then they come.

“Why don’t we just do a little bit,” they say.

They pull stuff out and wipe down shelves while I decide what to toss, what to donate and what to keep.

I put the “keep” stuff away while they haul the rest to the garage or back of the truck.

We repeat.

“Maybe that’s good for today???” I say halfway through the room.

“Are you sure you don’t want to just do this one last set of cupboards?”

“Ok, I’ll do it,” I say kinda grudgingly but kinda happy that they’re making me.

Then we finish.
And I feel awesome.
And tired. In a good way.
And they leave.

Then I open all the closets and peek in all the drawers three more times before I go to bed.

Just to feel proud again and again and again.

So, if you’re wondering how’s it’s done...you just need a few things:
✔️ some trash bags
✔️ some boxes for donating
✔️ stuff to wipe down shelves
✔️ oh, and don’t forget the Kara and Carolie👊🏻

That’s all.
Good luck!
